I was born on the 17th of januari 1970 in Bladel en Netersel,
a small village in the Netherlands. From 1982 till 1988 I was a student at Gymnasium
Bernrode . During this time, I got interested in physics. In 1988 I became
an undergraduate student at the physics department of Utrecht
University. I did my master-thesis in theoretical physics under supervision
of prof. dr. Schep and prof. dr. van Beijeren and got my master's degree on
30 august 1993. On the 3th of october 1997 I got my PhD. The resulting thesis
was entitled 'Evolution and stability analysis of bottom patterns in a tidal
embayment' (a pdf-file of the thesis can be downloaded here).
The PhD project was supervised by
prof. dr. A. van Harten, prof. dr. W.P.M. de Ruijter, dr.
A. Doelman and dr.
H.E. de Swart. After his doctorate, I had a number of post-doc positions:
- 01-09-1997 – 01-03-2001: post-doc researcher at the IMAU,
Utrecht University. Main subject: Modelling of channels, shoals and thresholds
in embayments such as the Western Scheldt. During this period, a number of
master students was supervised.
- 01-03-2001 – 01-09-2001: post-doc researcher at the Section
of Hydraulic Engineering, TU Delft. Main subject: Long term morphodynamic
behaviour of the ebb-tidal delta. Supervision of 2 PhD-students.
- 01-09-2001 – 01-09-2004: post-doc researcher at the IMAU, Utrecht University,
50% position. Main subject: Formation of multiple turbidity maxima in partially
mixed estuaries.
- 01-09-2001 – 01-09-2004: post-doc researcher at the Section of Hydraulic
Engineering, TU Delft, 50% position. Main subject: Long term morphodynamic
behaviour of the ebb-tidal delta..
- 01-09-2004 – 01-01-2006: post-doc researcher at the Environmental
Hydrogeology Group, Utrecht Universiteit. Main subject: Characterization of subsurface heterogeneity.
