Research activities of Guus Segal
Current research consists of discretization techniques applied to
the incompressible discretized Navier Stokes equations.
In particular it concerns finite volume methods and finite
element methods.
Finite volume methods
- Discretization based upon staggered grids and curvilinear
coordinates
- Solution of the Navier Stokes equations by the pressure correction
method
- Coupled approach, where the momentum and pressure equations are
solved simultaneously.
- Convection-diffusion equations
- Multi-block approach (domain decomposition)
- Software development in the ISNaS program
Finite element methods
- Solution by penalty function methods
- Solution of the coupled equations by a priori renumbering of the
unknowns
- Solution of the coupled equations by iterative techniques
- Divergence-free vector fields
- Software: SEPRAN finite element package
