PERSONAL INFORMATION
BIOGRAPHY
Born and growing up in Utrecht, Jok Man Tang completed secondary school at St. Bonifatius College in 1999. From 1999 to 2004, he studied Applied Mathematics at Delft University of Technology. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in 2003, followed by his Master of Science degree (cum laude) in 2004. During his studies, he carried out a project in collaboration with RIVM and KNMI ('Detection on changes in climate extremes and weather-related indicators in The Netherlands') and his MSc-project in collobaration with Shell ('Construction of combined preconditioners for the Helmholtz problem').
Jok worked as a PhD student in the Numerical Analysis group at Delft University of Technology from October 2004 till September 2008. He was supervised by prof. C. Vuik and collaborated with prof. R. Nabben (TU Berlin, Germany), dr. S. MacLachlan (Tufts University, USA) and dr. Y.A. Erlangga (University of British Columbia, Canada), which led to several scientific publications. He visited University of Oxford and TU Berlin several times for his work. In addition, the research was presented at many international conferences and symposia. He was awarded prizes for the Best Poster Presentation (Burgersdag 2008, Delft) and Best Student Paper (IMACS Conference 2008, Lille, France). Moreover, he taught linear algebra and was a teaching assistant for practicals of differential equations and numerical analysis. In addition, he was part of the organization of the Gene Golub DCSE Symposium, PhDays07 and PhDays08.
